 Viccino’s Pizzeria: A Modern Take on a Chicago Classic

Designing the new Viccino’s Pizzeria was about re-imagining the experience of a neighborhood staple through a modern, design-forward lens — one that celebrates Chicago’s character while introducing a sleek, updated aesthetic.

From the beginning, our goal was to merge functionality with visual rhythm. Every detail, from the tile at the counter to the lighting in the ceiling, plays a role in shaping the guest’s experience.

Lighting and Ceiling Design

One of the defining features of this space is the stretch ceiling with integrated profile lighting, designed to create dynamic lines that guide the eye throughout the interior. The interplay of soft diffusion and sharp geometry brings movement and height to the dining area — an element that subtly elevates the customer’s visual experience from the moment they walk in.

Wallcoverings and Material Harmony

We layered textures and tones through the use of two distinctive wall treatments. The custom wood paneling introduces warmth and depth, balancing the crisp, contemporary layout with a tactile, natural feel. Alongside it, a cityscape wallcovering anchors the brand in its Chicago roots — a visual homage that’s both artistic and locally inspired.

The Counter as a Focal Point

The counter, clad in glass red tiles, serves as both a visual centerpiece and a brand signature. The high-gloss finish reflects the ambient light, adding vibrancy and movement to the space while reinforcing the color identity of Viccino’s.

This bold choice pairs perfectly with the red upholstered seating, where the silver-finished frames echo the metallic accents of the counter and equipment. The repetition of red tones throughout creates continuity and energy, while the neutral flooring grounds the overall composition.

Attention to Detail Everywhere

Even utilitarian spaces, like the restrooms, received careful attention — featuring large-format terrazzo-style tile that enhances durability while maintaining a refined, minimal aesthetic. Every surface was selected for performance, hygiene, and long-term wearability, keeping both beauty and maintenance in mind.

A Functional, Fast-Casual Experience

Viccino’s new design embodies the balance between efficiency and atmosphere. The circulation, lighting, and materials were all chosen to support fast-casual dining without sacrificing visual appeal or comfort. The result is a space that feels clean, energetic, and unmistakably connected to Chicago’s spirit — a true evolution of the classic pizzeria experience.
