Before & After: Reimagining Senior Living Design at Evergreen, Oak Tree Retirement Community

A Senior Living Interior Design Project

Designing for senior living requires a different level of responsibility. At Perpetuum Designs, we believe that interiors created for seniors should be thoughtful, dignified, and deeply human. Our recent before-and-after renovation at Evergreen, Oak Tree Retirement Community reflects that belief in every detail.

This project challenged us to transform an aging, heavily used space into an environment that supports comfort, connection, and longevity—without sacrificing elegance or sustainability.

The Challenge: Updating a Space That Had Been Loved for Years

The original room had served its purpose for a long time, but years of use had taken their toll. Outdated flooring, insufficient lighting, worn furniture, and muted finishes created a space that felt tired rather than welcoming. While functional, it no longer reflected the warmth and care that seniors deserve in their daily environment.

Our goal was clear: create a place of comfort, beauty, and ease—designed specifically for seniors to enjoy, gather, and feel at home.

The Transformation: Design That Supports Quality of Life

Flooring: Safety, Sustainability, and Warmth

One of the most impactful changes was replacing the existing flooring with sustainable, durable materials designed for high-traffic senior living environments. The new floors reduce glare, improve safety, and visually open the space, immediately making it feel brighter and more modern.

Paint & Color Palette: Calm, Familiar, Timeless

Color selection in senior living design is never arbitrary. We refreshed the walls with a soft, balanced palette that complements the existing brick architecture while creating a calming atmosphere. These tones were selected to remain timeless, avoiding trends that might feel dated too quickly.

Lighting: Comfort Without Compromise

Lighting plays a critical role in how seniors experience a space. We introduced new, energy-efficient lighting that improves visibility while maintaining warmth. The updated lighting plan eliminates harsh shadows and creates an inviting ambiance throughout the room, supporting both daily activities and social gatherings.

Furniture: Comfort That Encourages Connection

New furniture was selected with ergonomics, support, and longevity in mind. Comfortable seating encourages residents to stay longer, socialize more, and feel physically supported. Every piece was chosen to feel fresh yet familiar—modern without being intimidating.

Window Treatments: Softening the Architecture

Curtains were introduced to bring elegance, acoustic softness, and visual warmth. These details may appear subtle, but they play a significant role in transforming the overall experience of the space.

Sustainable Interior Design for Senior Communities

All materials used throughout the renovation were selected with sustainability and longevity in mind. At Perpetuum Designs, we believe that responsible design benefits everyone—residents, operators, and future generations alike.

Designing With Purpose

This project reinforced something we deeply believe:
All seniors deserve more than just a quality life—they deserve well-designed spaces that honor their experience, comfort, and dignity.

The Evergreen renovation is a reminder that senior living design should never be an afterthought. With the right approach, even the most worn spaces can be transformed into environments that feel welcoming, elegant, and alive again.
